Hello All,

Does anyone have experience getting FTA (Free to Air) technology working to pick up channels? I see the Galaxy 19 at 97.0w is our regional sat, but i am curious how well it can be seen and how well it is picked up.

Also are there any others that can be picked up in the North Georgia, more specifically Alpharetta area?

If you do not know what free to air is heres a link, it is NOT dish network, directtv or any other paid service.

I have antenna in my attic pull in ~69 Atlanta Based TV station.

AntennaWeb - Home Put in your address and it will show you what you should be able to get, and where to aim your antenna to get them.

I believe you are talking about Over the Air (OTA) technology. That is different than Free to Air (FTA).

OTA uses antennas for ground based signals such as television transmitters for single channels. FTA uses Satellites in space that host a number of channels.

There have been thread in other group on FTA and seem like there is very little that is un-encrypted, Lots of religious and bunch of Shopping Channels. All the "Cable/Broadcast" type channels are all encrypted.

hmm thats what i was afraid of, galaxy 19 is mainly a religious broadcast satellite. so i am trying to figure out from others here if other satellites can be seen around here.

flyonpa: how many OTA channels can you get?

Well 57 right now, But it varies due to weather, and there are OTA (Sideband channels) that seem to on/off air depending on when I scan for them. Also get a few Non-Atlanta but they are very weak signals due to directional antenna i have aim'ed at the tower in Atlanta.

There are 3? towers in Atlanta, Most of transmitters do there signals off one tower. But all 3 are more or less in a nice alignment from Alpharetta so you get strong signals off all 3.
