The Stadium is GORGEOUS! A marvel... But I wouldn't have been opposed to the Falcons moving outside of downtown like other NFL cities are doing. I mean, really, it's only 8-13 games (13 if u include pre & post) max per year. That's not a lot at all... To take up SOOOOO MUCH space in the heart of the city just for 13 days... eh... But the stadium itself is amazing!

I know it will also host the MLS team, but personally, I wish we had/hope we do build a MLS specific stadium.

As for the Braves stadium, Fulton County Stadium was in a bad location, so was the Ted... Always been a traffic nightmare waiting to happen in that location. With the Braves having a minimum of 81 home games to draw biz, I think it would've been nice had they moved the Braves to the North Site of GWCC (walking distance from Centennial, Streetcar, MARTA, and some bars already in place) and has enough room to build all that they want to build around the stadium in Cobb.

If I was able to make the decisions:

Hawks play at Philips
Braves play at North Site of GWCC
Falcons play in new stadium Downtown/GA Dome site.
Resurgens FC play in a soccer specific stadium at the corner of 17th and Northside

The run the streetcar up Peachtree St (or Spring or Peidmont). Across 17th. Down Northside. Across bridge to Marietta, then back over to rest of Streetcar.

BOOM... Transit for ALL facilities

You forget is for soccer also and the Dome is used for more than those sports. Its used for concerts, conventions and probably a superbowl in the near future.

I know there are usually twice as many games as football I think,
Last year there were 34 games when I looked up LA Galaxy

I didn't forget. Those events could still exist in the Georgia Dome. Monster truck shows and high school band competitions aren't demanding new facilities.

MLS? Very little impact in drawing people downtown.

The Dome cost about $360 million in today's dollars, and will be 25 years old when it's demolished.

I also don't like the way the city got led around by the nose.

But then I am one of those old fogey types who wonders why we pay gigantic taxes but can't fund our parks, pave the streets or build playgrounds and sidewalks. What do we know?
If the Dome hotel tax went away, that ~38% share the city gets for its general fund would've disappeared. Do you think the whole tax should go to the general fund?

I thought they just spent another $300 million on renovations.

Regarding the hotel tax, once the Dome is paid off I don't see any reason why that money (or at least most of it) shouldn't come to the city's general fun.
