Pertaining to Fayette Co/Peachtree City - I lived there from 14 up to 17. My parents still live there and I visit them at least 2x a month.
McIntosh High was horrid when I moved to Peachtree City. It was the first time I ever experienced any type of harassment, which was odd to me since I was very popular at my previous school. Although I look at it now as an experience, I didn't stay at the school. I transferred after 6 months over to Sandy Creek in Tyrone. I loved it, less snotty, delta pilots kids driving 30k+ new cars and more "real" middle class families. Peachtree City is very safe, there are cops out and about often in the city, speed limits are strict and people take the police seriously there. It's like Cobb Co, in this sense...you know when you drive in to be on your best behavior. I live in Cobb Co now and there are some nice areas. Peachtree City is further from the City of Atlanta than some areas in Cobb, but it is close to the airport. I live in Smyrna/Vinings area which is a safe area and we are close to the City and the airport. Takes about 20 mins to get to Midtown or the airport from Smyrna. |

I highly recommend all of the areas I posted...that's why I posted them! I wanted to place Cobb County as #4, but you said three only! Here are more recommendations: Cobb County (Smyrna-Mableton-Vinings Area) Douglas County (Chapel Hill Area, Lithia Springs-New Manchester Area) |

I just ran across this little map site of the Atlanta metro, and you can use it to see where various counties are relative to Atlanta and also learn a few factoids about each county.

I really love living in Peachtree City (Fayette County). I find the schools to be great. I've not experienced snobs. I do think that your price range will be difficult to meet. There are a couple of older neighborhoods that are in the low 200s, but most don't have pools, tennis, etc. Ardenlee is probably your best bet for the price range. There is a park and it is very close (within walking distance) to the Kedron Aquatic Center (a recreational facility that has indoor/outdoor pools, sports, roller hockey rink, etc). Centennial is a bit higher in price range, but has more neighborhood amenities, plus the homes are new. Those are in the mid $300s if buying a resale.
Good luck! |

Well everyone seems to think if you don't send your kids to east cobb schools they will be left in the education dust. much has changed in the school landscape of the greater atlanta area. the cherokee county area has a lot to offer. woodstock is a very good school system. I live in canton in a fabulous sub division. we will be opening our own elementary school right in the subdivision in sept of 2008. we have two great summer pools with water slides. My grandson has been spending summers with me for the last 5 years. He attends the outdoor Y camp near Lake alatoona. He loves it. His mom saves a ton of money because the New Jersey camps are so expensive.
There is such good real estate to be had right now.Every thing is at such a stand still you could get very good deals. My personal favorite builder is John Weiland, the homes are very well made. I live in a smaller subdivision home(3 bedrooms) big rec upstairs and you could get this type of home for about 225 or lower. We plan on renting our home fully furnished next spring and the calls are coming in because of the school. My home was professionally done by a design team so its ready to move in. |
