Does anyone recognize this establishment? It was a motel like flophouse off the old International Blvd prior to the Olympics, about a half a block away from the old Greyhound Bus Station. It catered mostly to men, had one large bathroom with showers on each floor and a small area for females on the first floor. It was demolished with the surrounding area to make way for Centennial Olympic Park.

Any help?

I think I remember seeing that in a Dukes of Hazzard chase in the 80s.

I need to look up old pictures of that area. It seems like downtown must have been much more bleak before the huge park.

Was there anything noteworthy there before the park?

Where the park is now was a complete cesspool.

Thelma's Kitchen
Luckie St Grill (I think)
A homeless shelter

There were a few longtime businesses there that catered to a few but that particular area NEEDED improvement.

I just can't remember the name of that "motel" type business. I have to find a site that has old pictures of downtown Atlanta from the 80's and 90's.

From what I remember that area was pretty dense with older/historic buildings, but a lot of them were empty or either didn't really attract attention. It wasn't a pretty area, but I think it could have been much better with some effort...although the park is much better than what was there before.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that is not downtown is it? I haven't been to Atlanta in a while but where is the Equitable building, Westin Peachtree (probably named something else now but in 93 it was Westin Peachtree, Georgia Pacific? I don't think this picture is the actual site where Centennial park now stands....am I wrong?

Maybe I'm confused because I see IBM all the way over to the left and other buildings but I don't see the usual downtown markers.

Does anyone have a yellow pages from the 90s which might have the name of that "motel" I'm looking for? It was right off International blvd.

It's the western edge of downtown...look over to the right in the photo and you can see some of downtown's skyscrapers.

That area wasn't as densely built as I thought, unless maybe some of the buildings had already been cleared in the photo above.
