Hi everyone.

I'm a Georgian thinking about moving closer to Atlanta, but haven't spent enough time in the city and surrounding areas to be really familiar with where I want to live. So far I want to be north of I-20 and am thinking about areas north and west just outside the perimeter or north and east inside of the perimeter. I'm young but don't want to live right in midtown as it seems too expensive and I enjoy my peace.

So here are my stats/preferences:
>I work out of the home
>I want to rent an apartment and my budget is $700 max
>I have a car
>Safety is a big issue for me
>I don't have any children
>I do like areas with a creative vibe

Since you like areas with a creative vibe, Buford in Northern Gwinnett County might potentially be a good fit for you.

That's because Buford is home to a burgeoning artistic community, including an artists' colony at the Tannery Row Artist Colony in Downtown Buford which has a walkable historic village area that is popular with visitors.

Link to website for Tannery Row Artist Colony:
Welcome to the Tannery Row Artist Colony

Other spots that might be a good fit for you are Smyrna, Marietta, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Doraville, the Norcross 30071 zip code, Peachtree Corners and Duluth if one is talking about areas north and west just outside of the Perimeter.

If one is talking about areas north and east inside of the Perimeter, Doraville and Chamblee would likely be the best places to look.

I'd look at Cumberland/Vinings, and Kenessaw as well. For Cumberland, you can go to Promove at the corner of Windy Ridge and Cobb Pkwy to get some help, and discounts. Examples of places w/ lots of apartments are Cumberland Pkwy and Spring Hill Pkwy. There's also some mixed about in Cumberland.

In Smyrna, for the best bang for the buck, I'd look at for-rent private condos along Spring Rd, Atlanta Rd and Log Cabin Rd (use zillow or an agent to find them). In communities like Countryside At Cumberland and Vinings Central Run. They'll usually be priced better than commercial apartment rentals, and will be quieter neighborhoods.

If you want to try your luck with commercial rentals in Smyrna, they'll be older communities. You can try Rock Creek at Vinings and Tamarron at Vinings. In that case, I'd still use Promove for anything commercial.

If you like a lot of creative vibe, you may also want to look at Little Five Points in Atlanta, but you may need to find a roomate to make it affordable.
