What do you think is the most commonly spoken language aside from english and spanish in Georgia.
I was quite surprised that the answer was Korean. Are you surprised as well?

Not surprised, although I would have guessed German as no. 3. We know quite a few German speakers.

Frankly I am more surprised that Chinese isn't the third most common language in any of the states outside of New York.

I knew plenty of Koreans growing up here in Gwinnett near Snellville and I believe N Gwinnett area has even more in the Duluth, Suwannee and Buford area. I know there's the H mart off Lville Suwannee and numerous shopping centers have just Korean names. I have no idea why, how or when it happened but Atlanta definitely has a large Korean population. Interestingly enough, only knew one person of Japanese descent. A couple of people were of Chinese descent but the vast majority of east Asians were Korean.

Not surprising at all...I think I read that we have the fastest growing Korean community in the U.S. There are 4 Korean language tv stations that are broadcast in Atlanta and a Korean daily newspaper.

My APS elementary school in nw Buckhead in the 1970s and early 80s was 45% white, 45% black and 10% Korean. There was a Korean teacher who taught ESL--he was adored by all of us. There were no Hispanic kids to speak of--only kids that needs ESL were Korean.

I thought it may be Korean, but I was a little surprised it wasn't Cherokee.
