No it's not flawed; it just only ranked the nation's 30 largest metros.

As someone who visited Atlanta Midtown over the weekend, I could see living in Atlanta and being able to walk to many, many places of interest and recreation and whatever you needed.

Now granted it might be expensive in Midtown. But I'm adding it to my list of possible retirement locales, and that list is based about 70% on a "walkable city".

Take into consideration the people that are debating this, debate ANYTHING. Go and read old threads, you'll see the same heads pop up.

The main walkability factor New Orleans has got going for it is that it's absolutely flat -- no hills that make you feel like you'll die before you get to the top. They've got streetcars which helps expand what's considered "walkable" far into uptown and mid-city but it kind of has the same problem Atlanta does; the lines just don't go enough places (and despite the dedicated right-of-way the St. Charles streetcar is slooooooow, more like a tourist ride than a mode of transportation).

Plus MARTA is at least twice as far-reaching as the NO streetcars...and even without the hills, the humidity in NO will kill you.

Sounds like you are pretty familiar with NOLA and you are right the St. Charles streetcar is slow. I think the reasoning for that as you mentioned is for tourist because the Canal streetcar is way faster than that. Still in all New Orleas is easily one of the most walkable cities in America but as another poster stated it only counted the 30 largest metros which New Orleans is only ranked in the 50 largest metros.

Well speaking of humidity, Houston was ranked #15 of the 30 metro areas, so its clear, the actual ease of walking was not considered-hills and weather were not considered.
