I'm currently looking to rent a 2br house/townhouse/condo in the area of Smyrna or lower Marietta with a maximum of $850/mo. As a single female in my early 30's, my primary concern is safety, although it would be nice to be reasonably close to work (Cumberland Blvd). Would someone please advise me as to areas to stay away from? I have looked at Twin Brooks (off of Franklin Rd) in Marietta, which seems to be a nice development, but I haven't been in the Atlanta area long enough to get a vibe for good/bad places. I don't think I've seen one apartment community that has decent reviews. I also read somewhere to stay below Windy Hill Rd when looking in Smyrna. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated

$850 is going to be tuff - I did a quick search in Smyrna to see what is available and did not see anything that I would recommend

In the price range of $950-$975 you have several options including Vinings Run and Country Park which are both nice areas.

If your primary concern is safety, you probably shouldn't choose any apartment on Franklin Rd. The area's a bit...rough.

Calibre Brooke apartments are nice (or they were when I lived there) - they are flats though.

Not sure about townhomes and rental houses. Most of the rentals in Smyrna are in apartment complexes I think.

Cobb parkway, cumberlands, paces ferry, Atlanta Rd generally have nicer apartments. Atlanta Rd, closer to paces Ferry though.

Thank you all for your helpful advice. I'll have a look to see if anything might be available at Calibre Brooke and Country Park. I was being somewhat conservative with my rent and could afford a bit more for safety and location, which are my primary concerns.

I think you're gonna be hard pressed to find a house/townhouse in an neighborhood of Smyrna/Marietta that you actually want to live in for that price. I'm moving back home to Atlanta next year, and am trying to stay under $$950 for a place, and even that is proving to be challenging; especially because I want to live in Atlanta proper. I've pretty much resolved myself to a 1-2 bedroom apartment, but what I really need is a townhouse.

Maybe you can get into a place (apartment realistically) for $850, but on a special. Like say it really rents for $950+, but do to a special promotion you could slide in for $850 if you sign probably at least a one year or 15 month lease. Good luck.
