Is there ever going to be an "established neighborhood" labeled "Downtown Sandy Springs" or are we just going to go on forever calling the Perimeter area "Perimeter?"

Technically, most of the Perimeter center, including the mall, is actually in Dekalb County in the city of Dunwoody, if you look closely on Google Maps satellite imagery, you can actually see the county line as there's a clean separation in neighborhoods and development and such. You can see what I'm talking about with the clean North-South line here: http://goo.gl/maps/NHGS7

But yes, Sandy Springs is trying to develop a "traditional" downtown area which is supposed to be pretty much along Roswell Rd between Hammond Dr. and Johnson Ferry Rd.

Sandy Springs has developed a very ambitious downtown master plan. In my opinion it looks great.

They've chosen Carter and Selig for the initial build-out, although it will obviously take years to implement the entire plan.

But those folks don't mess around.

Yeah, that's right. I knew actually that (about the Perimeter = Dunwoody thing).

So, they're planning on turning that area into a traditional downtown for Sandy Springs, huh?
Hmmm...
Wonder if it'll ever have a skyline

Yes, I think it is happening as we speak. SS has years of lousy urban planning to overcome, but I have faith that they will.

If what we all know about the way folks in SS and Dunwoody roll holds true, the SS downtown will likely be drop dead killer. But it won't be historic like Decatur or Roswell and it won't have a skyline, not intended to. But in all likelihood it will be pretty awesome in its own SS way.

I wondered the same thing about Johns Creek.

I agree. SS used an excellent planning consultant and spent several years putting their plan together. It's my understanding the community is behind it and they probably have the resources to pull it off.

I guess time will tell.
