The group voted down the application at its July 31 board meeting “due to safety, logistics, Piedmont Park wear/tear, and noise issues,” according to MNA board member Dana Persons,..."

I don't blame them. Its not a good venue for a music festival with that many stages. The lack of parking alone makes it pretty ridiculous.

I do hope they prevail. Nothing against the festival, just the location.

Midtown Neighbors Association votes down 2014 Music Midtown application | SaportaReport

Quote:
“The Music Midtown Festival is coming to Piedmont Park on September 19 and 20, 2014. 85,000 (2-day) tickets are on sale for the event and the AJC is projecting that up to a quarter million people will be visiting our neighborhood,” Persons wrote. “The City of Atlanta, the Atlanta Police Department, and Live Nation will be closing 19th Street and part of Charles Allen to host this private, gated event in our beautiful public Piedmont Park.”

She went on to say that the neighborhood association was concerned about the plans for traffic flow during the event.“

All traffic is proposed to be diverted off 10th Street and detoured onto 8th St. and Myrtle St. for the two-day event. This means that traffic for an anticipated quarter of a million people will be directed right past your house on that weekend,” she wrote her neighbors who are part of Next Door.

The park benefits? How exactly does the park benefit?

The difference is though that not nearly as many people live around Renaissance Park as there is around Piedmont. Plus, the old area where Music Midtown was held before has a ton more parking options.

Wouldn't it be better to do this at some place like Lakewood or Verizon amphitheatre? Or take it out there where that big electronic music festival is held.

The problem with the current location is that you've got people coming in from all over the place who clearly don't feel any sense of investment and they just run amok. A privately supported urban park like Piedmont is way too fragile to be subjected to that kind of abuse.

They have to pay the park to use their space and they have to pay them for any clean up afterwards

Well the park is in the middle of the city. If they don't like noise/etc move to OTP

people kill me moving to the city and expecting silence and no traffic. Why not close the airport while we are at it since it has a lot of noise
