Music Midtown application voted down by Midtown Neighbors Association (Atlanta: tax, rail)

You folks want to ruin the Park? Just go ahead. I give up trying to convince you otherwise. I realize it's "your" park. Just make a generous donation to the Conservancy, will you? If you want to do with the Park what you want to do with it, then at least help pay for it, in a meaningful way. Get over the give-me attitude and take responsibility.

Oh, and after the end of Music Midtown, why don't you join the gangs of local residents and Park supporters in spending the better of a day or two picking up the trash in the surrounding neighborhoods? That would certainly help.

And after all of that, perhaps the entitlement attitude will sit just a bit better with those who do care.

Sorry to have hurt or insulted with these comments. But sometimes, you have to stand up for your convictions.

They aren't a victim. If what Ansley says is true, they took precautions to protect the park during the McCartney show. And then they did nothing to ensure those same precautions (or any precautions at all) would be used during MM. So, yeah, at least in part, the Conservancy is at fault for the damage to the park and I blame them.

Surely you've seen the photos of cars parked for miles along the highway. That's public property, and it was damaged by the rain and cars. This is the second time today that you've misrepresented what I've said.

I think Renaissance Park is probably the best bet. I liked it when it was there, and now that they only have three stages instead of five or six they might not have to use as much of the hot asphalt as they did in the late '90s.

A Counterpoint type of festival could work, but then it wouldn't be Music Midtown. It'd be Music Kingston Downs (whatever that is). I wouldn't think Peter Conlon would abandon a proven brand that he's built up over the course of numerous festivals and then replace it with a significantly different festival experience which he probably has little experience with.

You realize local residents ousted city leaders and made public gathering laws after Woodstock because they were so pissed about the damage it did, right? Sort of like how people don't want Music Midtown to return. Maybe it's not a Baby Boomers wanting to be gate slammers thing as much as it is people who live near large music festivals tend to not be big fans of them.

I think you mean some people. A lot of my friends live in the neighborhood just south of the park and are excited about it coming back. In fact, I haven't talked to anyone that doesn't want it to come back.

MM doesnt do anything for cultural credibility, lets not go crazy here. and what untold economic drivers does it bring? Maybe they are untold because they dont exist?

Anyway, I live nearby and have zero problem with traffic/crowds for special events at the park. Part of life in this area in my opinion.

My main concern is that the park gets badly damaged from this particular event (rainy years being worse of course) and the park does not benefit financially from the damaging event. So the promoters get their profits, the city takes their cut and the average park user gets stuck with a damaged park for a few weeks. Seems like Atlanta's premier park is being sold out on the cheap...

To those who leap to the defense of the beer-guzzling, mudsliding, pee-on-the-bushes yahoos who trampled Piedmont Park at last year's Music midtown:

Why not devote the same energy to educating these morons to the fact that you don't have to trash a park in order to enjoy it? There's very little that's "urban" about a bunch of drunk jackasses playing the fool in one our city's fragile treasures.
