As part of the new flood of development in Cumberland, another 3rd-party not affiliated with the Braves is planning a zoning request near the stadium, aply-named "Stadium Walk" (I hope they change the name). This will be up on the Northern part of Circle 75 close to Windy Hill. It will be 12.64 acres. It will be discussed at the Sept 8 meeting. It looks like they may tear down some 3-story office buildings in the process (not sure where they are planning to stick the tenants)

I can hardly read the request, but it looks like it is going to have a few hotels including a Marriot Courtyard (new revenue for the hotel tax paying for the stadium, woohoo) and then housing with a parking garage. There's also a new hotel going in at Corporate Plaza, and a new 600-unit apartment development about to be constructed just South of this mixed-use site.

Corporate Plaza on the map below is near the back-end of where the Target center is and is part of the connection between Windy Hill and Lake Park Dr off Cobb Pkwy.

This new development sits between the very edges of Smyrna and Marietta, essentially.

Here's approximately where it is going: https://www.google.com/maps/@33.8986...eXu_ZvR_6Q!2e0

I wish they'd force them to front roadway with buildings in lieu of the parking lots. It'd also be nice to see them force a connection point to one of the other roads to break up that large block, but I understand that's easier said than done. That's going to be the biggest hurdle in retrofitting these sorts of areas into more walkable communities - getting rid of the arterial roadways and insular developments.

Yes, I second this thought of placing a parking lot between the roadway/sidewalk and buildings. Its so car-centric and does nothing to encourage walkability. Same old Cobb County.

Simply amazing. I've lived and worked in this immediate area for 20 years and haven't seen the development in all 20 years combined that we've had since the Braves announcement. Things are happening quickly and this area is filling in.

I'm hearing Genuine Parts found a buyer at the right price, too. No official announcement yet. They've moving the rest of their folks to Wildwood, as expected.

And word is the 2550 Heritage Ct building b/t the Doubletree and the Braves has found a buyer an a very nice premium. Rumored buyer is not Braves, although the Braves tried to buy it at a smaller premium and were outbid.

Still has a long way to go before it compares to Perimeter Center, namely direct rail-based transit connection to Atlanta and HJIA.

Of course it does. Nobody is questioning that. Even with all this recent development, Cumberland is still #5 behind downtown, midtown, Buckhead, and Perimeter . . . and likely always will be #5 in metro ATL.

But, it's at least exciting to see some major movement after YEARS of nothing in this area.

And I would lead the rail charge if there was to be one, but at least this area is developing the density to make rail a more feasible option than ever before. Big steps in the right direction.

Wow, the traffic in this area is going to go through the roof.

Already is, and seems much more intense in just the last month or 2. Problem #1, no doubt.

Squeaky wheel will get the grease, though. Hoping that grease is rail at some point.

Don't bet on it. Most Cobb County voters do no want to pay for it.
