It was the kind of news to make Atlantans’ blood run cold — for a second at least.

“BREAKING: EBOLA OUTBREAK IN ATLANTA!” screamed the first line from Yahoo! News’ Twitter feed.

“Estimated 145 people infected so far since Doctors carrying the disease were flown in from Africa.”

The tweet went out at 4:41 p.m. Sunday and disappeared about 20 minutes later, but not before it was retweeted hundreds of times. Few of those commenting on the tweet appeared to believe it, chalking it up to a more common ailment — the dreaded Twitter hack..."

I hate these bogus "news" stories.

Remember the one about Alpharetta trying to keep Justin Timberlake out? I'm sure there are still people who believe that.

Yes, Yahoo is a train "wreck", as noted earlier & this does little to bolster their "news" reputation as a reliable information source.
Honestly, their main page "news" selection is so hideous in the choices of what is presented that I try not to look at it before signing into e-mail. But, the selection & content of stories when I see it irritates me so highly that I'm considering dropping Yahoo completely & using another account for e-mail & other such needs.
Yahoo news has jumped the shark!

Yahoo does seem alarmist and will get on your nerves when what is clicked leads to the biggest stack of nothing ever. While I am not freaking out about the ebola patients at Emory, I would like to know if and when a cure will be found. Seriously, when was the last time any disease, virus, or whatever the correct term is was cured?

A vaccination for HPV was approved in 2006.

A vaccination for chicken pox became available in 1995.

Given how slowly things crawl through the FDA, work on those cures began back in the 70s and 80s.

Also, recent advancements in eye lens replacements mean that cataracts are no longer something to dread. An older relative of mine underwent cataract surgery and now his eyesight is as good as it was when he was 30. He doesn't even need reading glasses anymore.

If these were easy problems, there would be a solution.

Ok, so once every 10 years or so. Well, it's 2014 so I guess we're on deck for finding a cure for something new soon.

It is a coincidence that you mentioned cataracts because my dad is having surgery on his left eye tomorrow. He actually did not tell me it was cataracts until this morning so it is good to hear of the advancements.

Sure is, Yahoo is in absolute tatters. I figured this declining tech company would probably be out of business at this point.
