You guys think Atlanta will ever attract any of the Middle Eastern airlines or cargo companies?

We use to have cargo service with Qatar... not sure what happened to them, but we now have cargo service with Emirates.

The best bet for middle eastern passenger service would be Emirates that specializes in long distance service with connections between Europe and Asia. Based on the current landscape, air alliances, etc.. I'm not too sure that will happen soon. We have pretty good competition to Asian hubs flying west(northwest) and we have pretty good connections to the middle east through Europe.

However, Atlanta and Miami would be the next most likely markets for them to expand into the US if they did and I think it is the most likely path to have direct service to the middle east.

Most of the other US destinations they are in the same alliance or has code share agreements with a local hub airline or its a major finance center like NYC or Boston.

In the mean time Delta does have nonstop service to Dubai and there are some decent connections through NYC and Amsterdam

I see... Thank you for that information. I do hate to see Hartsfield surrender the title. Not because I am greedy. Because it's Atlanta's biggest marketing and competitive advantage. That airport's size and stature have played an enormous role in building Atlanta and Georgia into the powerhouses they are today. Of course Houston and Dallas have never had the world's busiest airport, yet they still have grown enormously and it didn't stop them from becoming powerhouses.

For more than 30 years, the Sheraton Atlanta Airport Hotel has stood at the western end of Hartsfield-Jackson’s southern runways; but soon, the 12-story red brick tower and sprawling convention center will be no more.

Last week, the City of Atlanta purchased the 395-room hotel with plans to demolish it to make way for the expansion of the airport, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle. The sale closed for $16.7 million.

Scuttlebutt is that it is closing. The hotel, and its convention space, seemed to be perpetually under renovation, or had plans for renovations that never materialized. Ownership/management changed hands a few times in recent years, too.

Newest airport hotel open
Quote:
Earlier this month, the newest hotel in the Gateway complex—tied into the airport via the ATL SkyTrain—opened to the public. To mark the occasion, last night the Renaissance Atlanta Airport Gateway Hotel hosted a grand opening party, showcasing the seven-story high-end complex.

That's the word in the Industry.

Marriott doesn't quite know what to do with Sheraton since they acquired Starwood. The brand is under very close scrutiny, and could actually disappear or be totally overhauled.
