Anyone can agree Atlanta would be a top 5 choice for relocation. They are ranked high every year. Very popular for people around the south and east/northeast regions of the United States.

Hope this does not result in a rapid escalation of home prices similar to what has happened in Southern California where home prices have gone up by 500% in the last 15-20 years.

I don't think we'll ever have that level of price here. We don't have that year round great weather next to an ocean with sunset views and we don't have mountains in the immediate area. But I'm not complaining. I actually found this article about someone who moved from LA to Atlanta recently because of the prices. I think Atlanta can remain reasonably priced.

And moving from...Atlanta is #3 again. Guess Atlanta is breaking even? Although, DC apparently has the greatest churn. Charlotte made the from list...so the good times for them is over?

It is interesting though. We are both #3 for move-in, but also #3 for move-outs!

We are growing, but nowhere near as strong pre-recession or what we saw in the mid-90s.

I just find it interesting that we have a high over turn. We are a hub business city in a society where cross-state/country moves for careers are increasingly common

but I will caution one thing as a researcher. There will be an inherit bias, because this is from a survey of United customers. United might compete better for customers originating from some areas over others. They might compete better for customers of a certain income range, etc... This could also be indicative that we have high rates of movers from their target customers over other types.

I'm sure Charlotte will do just fine moving into the future. They were just over dependent on banking alone and that got shaken pretty bad in the recession. But they still have one of the surviving mega banks, BoA.

They still have an airline hub, the highest per capita rate of business travelers in the nation, a decent location not unlike our own, and they have the advantage of still being cheaper/less congested/smaller in the right ways than Atlanta is. As Atlanta, Dallas, Houston generation sunbelt cities start to get more expensive or perhaps over-expanded the next generation of sunbelt cities will become cheaper and more appealing of a lifestyle. I really believe that is what we are seeing with cities like Charlotte, Austin, Nashville, Denver, Phoenix, etc..

And ... is that a bad thing? The growth you cited was unsustainable. It's much better for the region overall that Atlanta experience moderate, sustained, well-planned growth, rather than the massive influx of 1.5 million people during the 1990s that suffocated us.

To really put us over the top, we need high speed rail to the coastline beaches and to the mountains. Then we could be more like LA where people can ski and go to the beach on the same day (with a wet suit, since it'd be winter)
