I read some of the comments and some people are comparing GA to Mississippi and Alabama which both have lower population number. Mississippi has around 2.5 million people and Alabama is around 4.8 million people and Georgia is close to 10 million people which people don't take into consideration when it come to things like this .

What? If I understand what you're saying, you're completely wrong. The unemployment rates are just that, rates. That is, it's a ratio. The use of a denominator in the calculation of the % is what makes the numbers comparable across states, regardless of population size.

In any case, this is going to be fun to watch. Obviously, the Governor will continue to state that the numbers are wrong because they are not in his favor. It amazes me to read that he stated that it is suspicious that states with Republican governors are falling to the bottom in unemployment rates, so Obama's administration must be behind falsifying the numbers. Of course, if the tides turned, and Republican Governor's, including himself, were at the top of the list for lowest unemployment rates, the numbers would be described as exact, calculated without any error, and show just how great Republican policies and ideologies are for our society. Politics at its best. And yet, there are plenty of people in this state who continue to fall for the unethical, misconstrued, and manipulating "facts" that this man continues to spew for election year politics.

I'd also like to note I didn't think Deal was all that bad at the beginning of his term. But as time goes on, he gets worse, and worse, and worse.

....And don't forget that the state reduced unemployment benefits for the unemployed (Reduced Ga. Unemployment Benefits « CBS Atlanta). So is the state going to increase the benefits now that we have proof that our economy is in the gutter? Jason Carter are you LISTENING????? Nathan Deal is inept and cannot even reduce the jobless rate. We have the worst unemployment in the country.....worse than Michigan, worse than Nevada and even worse than Mississippi. WOW!!!!!!!

I cannot wait to get these Repubs out of office. They only know how to destroy economies, that's it!

Vote for Jason Carter and Michelle Nunn. We need some major change in this state!

When Democrats ran this state, our economy was great (Think about the 90's where you could quit a job and land a new one the same day). Now that we have Repubs in the office the state has been going downhill drastically.

Nathan No Deal!!!!! I will definitely be at the ballots to vote him out!!!!!!

Please note that this Republican led State is in opposition to ride sharing companies like Uber also. It's real easy to talk about being the party that favor Capitalism, but yet introduce legislation against ride sharing companies. This election of a new Governor will get real ugly and be very entertaining to watch. Grab your popcorn folks, a good show is ahead.

Yes, the amount of hypocritical statements coming from this Governor and his legislature is amazing. Free market, but we'll limit who can compete in that market. Lower taxes, but cut our school budgets (which likely feeds into our unemployment mess). Bring technology and biomedical sciences to the state, but put religion ahead of scientific progress.

I really hope for a big change this year. Get Deal out, and Carter (or really, ANYBODY else) in! Also, if you are going to defend Deal and say anything is better than a democrat, please state why with facts and research. I'm really sick of reading comments and hearing people say that democrats would bring ruin to the state, but they can't intelligently state why Deal is any better.

Blame the non working Republican "Senators" too! David Perdue is a crook just like the rest of the Republicans:

(Democratic Party of Georgia (via noodls) / QUESTION FOR DAVID PERDUE: When You Outsourced Hundreds Of American Jobs, Did Your Company Get A Tax Break?)

(David Perdue Exaggerates His Father's Role Desegregating Georgia Schools)

Do not let him in. We have had enough of the Good Ole Boys (Chambliss and Isakson)!

Keep in mind that there is a difference between 8% unemployment in a state with stronger than average population growth vs a state with stagnant or slight population growth. Georgia likely has a net growth in jobs, year over year, however, that is more than offset by an expanding population. If Georgia population growth has ramped up over the last year or so, while job growth remained the same....such would explain the rise in unemployment.

In short....Georgia does not have the job growth to support the continued population growth. This is different from having high or rising unemployment....with no population growth or very little.

Not sure of the stats, but we can also say that lots of people are moving into the state to take high paying jobs that are moving in, while current residents who aren't qualified for positions (read: conservative educational policy and philosophies) get stuck unemployed. Also, a lot of those high paying jobs move people in with them - when some HQ's move down, they bring their employees who are willing to relocate, rather than hiring Georgians. Georgia isn't creating the workforce for the jobs its bringing in - rather, those jobs are going to the people moving into the state. People moving in is NOT a bad thing, but creating a workforce who is only qualified for low wage jobs, due to our educational policy, IS a bad thing.
