The streets of buckhead?
What do the atlantians think about this new shopping center www.thestreetsofbuckhead.com . And please tell me they did not have to knock down any beautiful homes just for this mess.

I'm really excited about the project. Its supposed to be similar to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. The list of stores so far is pretty exclusive too. I just hope it's not so upscale that the average family avoids going.
They didn't knock down any beautiful homes. Just nightclubs mainly.

Yeah, it really is Atlantans.. LOL... the "Atlantians" I do believe sunk with an ancient city (or can be found on Stargate Atlantis each Friday night).
No homes were torn down. They tore down a party/bar/nightclub area that was once a party central place for white yuppy-ish types and was replaced by Rap clubs and HipHoppers. Once crime moved in due to certain clubs, a millionaire developer who actually lives near there got tired of the city not cleaning it up, so he actually bought up that whole area and is now developing "The Streets".
Neat idea. I mean, I won't be able to afford to shop there or eat in the restaurants there. But there MIGHT be enough local and tourist support to keep something like that going.
Funny how they keep refering to it as the Rodeo Drive of Atlanta... Atlanta has always had an identity crisis - not ever being able to just be Atlanta. When I moved here in 1984 there was a rather large ad blitz going on where they used a Southern Bell in a tight sweater holding a wet Peach up to her lips with the slogan.. "Move over Big Apple..". Atlanta was trying to be the New York of the South. Once traffic become so bad and sprawl set in they realized we were more like L.A. than anyplace else, so now we're the L.A. of the East, and they make comparisons in that regard. Sure would be nice if they could just build something unique to ATLANTA and stop trying to duplicate things that are in other cities.

I think atlanta already has it's own identity that makes it very unique. Atlanta has the most beautiful homes in america so they don't need to try and copy la for anything. And as for the streets of buckhead project perhaps this was a great idea especially if it got rid of low class scum. And you can bet if the area is safe tourist from around the world will come there in packs to shop til they drop.

One advantage the Streets of Buckhead have is that there is an existing historical context in that area. Old homes surround the area, the Roxy and some other older commerical buildings are there...so it has that going for it.

It is going to be awesome. They are tearing down a bunch of old strip mall type bars that mostly changed names and owners every year or so. That area of Buckhead is in need of a facelift.

I know the developer and his partner, they are great people and this is one great development that is going up. Just think how amazing this is for Atlanta and its developers to pull this off in the economic times we are in. This development is well over a billion dollars. SOme of the stores are already in Lenox or Phipps, but this development will still be very unique and very walkable.
