Interesting article since my parents live in Conyers. The demographic shifts have been very apparent in the last decade or so.

But if you notice, many of the black residents seem generally pleased with the city's government, even when it's majority white. Remember, this county used to be 70-80% white 20 years ago. They're not just going to fire the white legacy employees for new blacks one who the sake of representation and diversity, especially if the black residents are choosing not to vote. Maybe it's focusing too much on race and not people's general reaction and opinions of the government, regardless of skin color.

Conyers is cheap and many blacks love that. Other then a few police interactions here and there, generally, blacks are pleased with Conyers...a nice little suburb about 25 miles out from Atlanta.

This is a nationwide trend. Look at Fergusson, Mo. The city is almost 3/4 black and the mayor is white.

We certainly don't have that issue in the city of Atlanta.

And look at it this way...sometimes, you can vote for someone that's not your skin color. Whites are still the majority in the United States, and we have a black president, so go figure.

Clark Howard threaten to run for mayor of Atlanta but decided against it. I wonder how he would have fared?

That is EXACTLY what Clayton County did 10 years ago, and the place fell off a cliff.

There's also the election between Mary Norwood v Kasim Reed. If you remember, the voting margin was only about 750 votes. Mary enjoyed a sizable block of support in the black community, Reed in the white. It seemed to represent a paradigm shift in Atlanta politics.

Aren't you from Savannah though? How do you know that it fell off a cliff? Or did someone tell you that and you just ran with it?

ClayCo outside of Lake Spivey and a few other areas was never super ritzy. It wasn't like it was Buckhead one day and then turned into the Bluff the next. It went from a lower middle class to middle class white area into a lower middle to middle class area for minorities.

It's funny how they have all these places listed in Metro Atlanta, but somehow omitted a certain municipality that's in Douglas County. Go look it up on the U.S. Census data and then visit the city website then look up its officials...
