How is Atlanta for interracial couples? (Marietta, Decatur: 2013, crime, preschool)

I'm thinking about relocating to Atlanta. I've always loved it down there. My older brother moved down to Snellville a while ago. I'm in an IR (BM/WF) relationship. How is it down there for IR couples? I liked the A but, I sort of have reservations about this.

It's fine. Just stay in the inner metro in an area of mixed-race if you don't want to get looks. You don't want to live in an area that's too much one race or another. Take a look at the map below to see areas that are integrated. For white/black, best places for you will be heading in NW or NE direction from midtown (along 75 and 85 respectably) all the way into the immediate suburbs, the NW and NE perimeter, along with right around midtown. For asian/white, it'd be very specific areas of Gwinnett, midtown and points East, around Vinings, and the Dekalb portion of Perimeter Center. For white/hispanic, you'll want to be off of Peachtree Industrial, in Gwinnett, along Marietta Blvd or in central Cobb.

yeah, you can completely disregard netdragon's reply. It won't be an issue endemic to any specific locales in the metro area... just the same old ignorant, close minded people that you would find anywhere.

Why would a single predominant race in an area have any bearing on the reception they'd receive as an interracial couple? I saw this weekend quite a few interracial couples in Midtown/Downtown. I'm not in one myself so don't know what their experience was like, but I doubt anyone cared. Also one of the managers of my team is a white guy married to a black lady and I've never heard complaints of issues.

I responded to a poster yesterday who thought his/her daughter was the victim of a hate crime because of interracial dating in Marietta. I actually find it a little difficult to believe that was the true source of the violence because I have had no problems to speak of and it does seem indeed taht people here barely take notice I probably still would suggest avoiding living in Forsyth Co, but other than there it's pretty common to see couples of different races; that's why I barely notice at all anymore.

I live in Buckhead and there are a number of interracial families represented just in my child's preschool alone. Really, no one cares and you will have zero problems based on being an interracial couple in our area.

I live in Forsyth. My wife and I are an IR couple. Our neighbors across the street from us are an IR couple and my children have classmates who are from IR families. I haven't encountered anything different here than anywhere else in the metro area. You can run into narrow-minded people anywhere, but in general I haven't experienced anything different in Forsyth than when we lived ITP.

You're probably right, but I have a certain perception of Cumming. It comes not so much from being around others as an IR couple, but I what I hear when I'm alone and the PC language disappears. At any rate for someone new to the south like the OP, I still would caution against that location as a top choice.

the PC language always disappears eventually. It doesn't matter where you are located.

As far as being interracial - like someone above said - no one's gonna notice. There's a lot more race-mixing in the South than I think most people expect.
