I'm not saying raise the speed limits. It's dangerous enough as is at 35. I'm just saying don't add bike lanes to an already dangerous major route.

Then improve the buses to make people use them! Build a streetcar along it! Hurting existing roads won't help anything else, it'll just make people all the more irritated with the city.

I don't really care one way or another but this is just a ludicrous strawman. This thread isn't about interstates and highways.

Once again, I don't care about this particularly one way or another. But deluding yourself and acting like there's absolutely no merit to the idea is just nonsensical.

Traffic calming - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I mean, there are legitimate debates to be had on the subject. But your line of reasoning has zero part in one.

I should've clarified it. The concept of traffic calming is a great one, but narrowing lane widths (not the number of lanes through a road diet) with the intent of slowing down traffic is a farce, and was only done to give the illusion of adding traffic capacity, even though the end result is awful traffic flow. Atlanta should be looking into road diets for the north-south avenues.

Narrowing lanes makes the drivers slow down, since there is not a nice, wide lane for that driver to speed on. This can be explained when adding on-street parking to a road. It provides a buffer to the pedestrians and somehow makes the drivers slow down.
