Wasn't the Amtrak station supposed to be moved to 17th and Northside?

Think that never got off the ground. The Amtrak station should be part of the MMPT any ways.

So where exactly will the first apartment building go? I check google maps and 455 14th Street isn't really near Ikea? It's closer to Midtown and the interstate.

It will go across the street from the mosque where there is some older office complex.

I always said that 17th & Northside was the perfect location for a new Braves stadium (the lot is perfectly sized for a stadium & has a great view of the city skyline) or a MLS only stadium...
I always thought that location offered the plus of the skyline view + being walking distance from Atlantic Station and the future Beltline transit.

And if not a sporting venue, I though it would've been a great location for a tall, iconic landmark.

Oh well. At least it's finally going to be put to use rather than just sitting around empty waiting on circuses to come to town and park their trailers there...

That would have been nice Psykomonkee. Would be great to retain a skyline view of their actual namesake.

High density detached single family homes? Can anyone think of an example of a recent development that fits that description?

I wonder if they will keep the single hole green and baseball field when they develop the new apartments

More Coverage: Fuqua is Taking His Mixed-Use Talents to the Westside - Development du Jour - Curbed Atlanta

Quote:
Sources indicate that one of Atlanta's most prolific and controversial developers will lay claim to a prominent piece of Midtown's western fringes, next door to Atlantic Station and IKEA. Jeff Fuqua (sound the Darth Vader music!) plans to build high-density residences, standalone houses and commercial spaces at the corner of 17th Street and Northside Drive. A few years ago, Amtrak flirted with building a new station on the vacant 12.5-acre site, and ever since, it's been one of the most sizable pieces left for development between Midtown and Howell Mill Road. The property sits at the western entrance to Atlantic Station and should allow for superb skyline views.

I think the original Glenwood Park development fits that. But I am not holding my breath for that from Fuqua given what he is building next door to Glenwood Park.

The development at 17th and Northside will be a great location. I'd move there if they were even slightly affordable, and were in a decent school zone. Neither is likely, however.

It will be interesting to see how the one on 14th develops. Isn't that the lot next to WGCL? They have a bunch of satellite dishes pointing right through that lot. A tall building would get in the way. Maybe they'll have to move them. WGCL also has a helipad there, although I doubt it's used very frequently.
