City addresses Olde Towne Morrow’s code violations | Clayton News Daily

Quote:
MORROW — Olde Towne Morrow may not be safe and the city’s getting ready to act on it.
“According to our fire marshal and fire chief, any occupancy for those building is currently out of compliance,” said Interim City Manager Sylvia Redic during a city council meeting this week.
The buildings are not up to code — they have not passed the tests necessary to guarantee they’re safe enough for people to stay in. That means they don’t have certificates of occupancy.
Olde Towne Morrow is a mixture of new commercial buildings and old homes that were brought to the city from across the state in 2007 and 2008 and were renovated to be shops and restaurants. The development suffered a host of problems that eventually attracted the attention of state and local investigators.
Recently, the city has been trying to sell the property. A holding company called ISDG Holding announced its intentions to redevelop Olde Towne Morrow in June, but that deal fell through.
Now, Redic said the best chance of selling the property is understanding what challenges lie ahead in bringing it up to code.
“When we have people who are interested in Olde Towne Morrow or want to come in and talk to us about it as a real-estate investment, I’d like to be able to speak more definitively on, you know, our position and our understanding specifically related to the fire and safety codes,” she said.

^^^ Yes, that's it.
It looks like an abandoned old west movie set more than anything else.

True, good apt description.

Yes, maybe as the economy improves, some groups will try to "fix" it up some. It's located directly behind Southlake Mall. Potential that never was during the time it was built. As you drive down or up 75, you can see some of it at a quick glance.

I wouldn't say it was useless. It was supposed to be a town center for Morrow, and the idea wasn't clueless, but the way they put it in action was. The location, developers, and feasibility were way off. They still use it for community events though. If you want more info read this Olde Town Morrow: What's in Store for these Stores?

That was what I meant by clueless. It didn't fit what they were trying to accomplish in any way.

I'm actually friends with someone who's Dad was politically active at the time. I should ask him how this happened.

The idea of relocating historic homes was cool. I'm just taken aback by the site chosen to be the "Town Center"
