If Fulton & DeKalb were to pass their own "TSPLOST" 1 cent sales tax that only did transit and no roads, it could fund basically all the transit projects on the table in the two counties straight up.

That assumes no contributions from other sources:
  • Zero growth in Sales Tax collections
  • Zero Fed Dollars
  • Zero State Dollars
  • Zero Beltline TAD Dollars
  • Zero MARTA Dollars

So there is plenty of wiggle room to make this quick-math work.

There is strong support for transit in Fulton & DeKalb and these projects would cover about every part of the counties so it should have no trouble passing.

This is GA. It still wouldn't fly. They don't teach economic development policy or math in Bible school...but GA Tech does!

Any such plan would need to exempt seniors and those of us on fixed incomes.

Atlanta != Georgia

Think you will find considerable support for transit in Fulton, DeKalb, and Atlanta

It would follow the same exemptions that currently exist on sales tax.

Yes, 1% sales tax. The same that TSPLOST would have charged but done mostly road upgrades through the 10 county region.

You're very out of touch with reality in this comment. ^^^^

That is IF these projects were to be done on time and within budget, otherwise that $370 million will be eaten up quickly.

You mean how in the northern hemisphere the climate gets cold towards the end/beginning of the year and it gets hot in the middle (and vice versa in the southern hemisphere)? That "climate change"?

Uh oh. Better not doubt North Fulton's vehement demand for MARTA HRT expansion; that's considered blasphemy around these parts...

The $370M would basically cover 5% overages, which seem pretty typical rates. But even if not the Feds, State, MARTA, Beltline, or other sources usually contribute more than half the funding their is plenty of funding. So there should be plenty of funding.

Its amazing how far your transportation dollar goes if you don't spend them on highways / cars.

As a Southern Baptist, I can't let this go. Please quit stereotyping us! I agree with the theory of evolution and know enough science to know that the human-caused climate change is a pile of manure. So please don't lump is all into the anti-science crowd.

I think North Fulton is long-since ready for rail expansion up their way. GA-400 is just too congested now.
