I believe the GPS is good for those who wish to navigate metro Atlanta in general. You know, people who live in Midtown sometimes DO like to leave the Midtown area. LOL

If there's one thing anyone and everyone discovers upon living here is that both intown and metro streets have absolutely no official planning or laying out to them. There are no "grid patterns" or anything. If you look at a metro map it looks like someone just took a handful of spaghetti noodles and threw them on a board and went, "there's gonna be our streets!!". LOL I've lived here for 23 years and there are still times I find myself in neighborhoods in other areas of the metro where my GPS helps me navigate around without getting lost in the octopus-style street layouts.

Default 2 BR flat

I live in 30269, commute to Forest Park, 1/2 mile from airport...it's about a 30 minute commute from this excellent suburban location.

I know you said you weren't looking for a house...but I have a 2br/2ba ranch in a very small garden home neighborhood...if it won't sell I'll rent it in a couple of months.

check it out at WWW peachtreecitygeorgia.vflyer.com

Default Working at the Airport

I worked for DAL for years before I had kidos. ATL is not in the best part of metro Atlanta. And Atlanta is a driving city.

As far as where to live... lots of DAL and airline folks I know live in the Smyrna Vinings area, the Newnan Peachtree City area, Douglasville and honestly all over the metro. If you working a non ground airline job, you can really live just about anywhere.

As far as nice schools to work at... check out Cobb (in the north part) and Fayette for public and Woodward (which is in a "transitional area that is right by the airport), Pace, Walker, Lovett (in Vinings), Pace and Westminister (private non religious) and Whitfield (Mableton/ Smyrna area) and Mt Paran, just to name a few.

You can also check out Mareitta City Schools... Marietta City is a nice place to live and work.

In the south metro, I'd also check out Sandtown (outside the perimeter a couple miles on Camp Creek Parkway) not too far from the airport. The reason the o.p. mentioned Brookhaven is probably because of MARTA because by car it isn't any better than Smyrna. If your husband is willing to commute by rail, you could live even in the North metro close to the North Springs station.

What about the Newnan and Peachtree City areas? Lots of pilots and flight attendants live in Newnan. Newnan has great lofts downtown on the square, also several nice apartments. West Georgia college is about 30 minutes from Newnan. Peachtree City has a whole lot to offer in way of shopping as does Newnan which is really growing. Also mall in Douglasville is only about 35 minutes from Newnan.

Are there any other areas that are nice and about 20-30 minutes drive to the airport? Looking for a nice neighborhood. We are not looking for a house. Just a 2 bedroom flat.

Thanks

Hey, just wondering what area you decided on? My husband and I are currently in the same position but coming from Colorado! He just got a job for Delta and we are hoping to get based in Atlanta. I would love to hear any good advice if you have found a nice place! Thanks!

I hope nobody read this. If people realized how empty the 285 is from the South Cobb exit down at all times .. oh, I don't even want to think about it. To the OP, yeah move to midtown.. or somewhere on the south side. Symrna/Vinings wouldn't work for you at all.

Since your husband will be working in airport. Would he consider riding the train. It stops inside the airport so there will be no need to drive back and forth.
Then you are free to move to a nice area because I don't think the area surrounding the airport is that great of a place to live.
Alpharetta, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Lawrenceville are nice areas
However the train does not travel from Vinnings or Smyrna.
