What's the best online service to find good contractors in the Atlanta area? I know about the big online services. Is one better than the others? Is there a local service/directory anyone recommends?

Thanks

There are a bunch of online services in Atlanta and they have changed over the years. I think the up and coming contractor directory is TruePros. At one point Angieslist and Kudzu were the big players. Personally I don't like the idea of paying for a membership on Angieslist and Kudzu was loaded with out of business contractors the last time I checked (very frustrating). Service magic existed for a while but I think it became HomeAdvisor. They actually have contractors call you after submitting an online form. Not my idea of a good way to find a good contractor but it depends on what you want. There is RedBeacon, the last time I checked you post a job and the contractors bid on it without seeing it..how well can that work? I think the newest online service is TruePros. I used it a few weeks ago and found a plumber. I really liked that all the contractors have been prescreened and background checked. After my sink was fixed the plumber gave me a magnet that gives me an unlimited use ten percent off discount on future service from every contractor in the TruePros directory, so that's pretty cool. Plus they are a local directory in the Atlanta area.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I went to the TruePros website. I like it! I found you can actually get the unlimited use 10% coupon by simply selecting the link at the top of the page "Become a TRUE Preferred Client". I got the coupon in an email as soon as I submitted my email. Here is the website link for the coupon: truepros.com/coupon

Don't ever use Angie's List. The contractors can advertise for free on there, and they aren't checked out, but in order to leave a review, the victim has to pay. It's a scam.

Default More info on the subject

Thanks, A contractor I used told me to beware of a service called Porch.com (he told me it's owned by Lowes). Supposedly, the contractor is asked to provide data about your home to Porch.com, so Lowes can sell you more services. Kind of gives you a weird feeling about the whole process. I'm not sure if this is actually true, can anyone verify this information?
