Best day and time to drive through Atlanta heading north

I visit parents in the Tampa area frequently,my return to the north has me going through Atlanta around 2am, no traffic worth mentioning at that time of day..

If it works for you, traveling through Atlanta at night is most often almost always better.

Traveling through Atlanta at night is certainly much better than traveling through Atlanta between the hours of about roughly 5am-8pm.

The main concern about traveling through the Atlanta area on the weekend after New Year's is that there will be many motorists on I-75 traveling back home to Atlanta and points north from points south (vacation and resort areas in Florida and along the Gulf Coast).

Traffic may not necessarily be as heavy as it is during a typical weekday Atlanta rush hour, but it will still be noticeably heavy and slowdowns will still potentially be a possibility.

Yes, we traveled up 75 last Sat (Sat after Christmas) from Fl and traffic was brutal from mid-Georgia almost into downtown Atlanta. And traffic was also bad on 75 in Florida. Travel btwn 12am and 5am if you can.
