I called the police and the officer said that it happens a lot when a home has recently been purchased. Real estate agents and the appraisers both come around and take pictures of comparable houses. For appraisals, these pictures have to be within a certain timeframe.

That made me feel MUCH better. I'm still going to keep writing down any incidents of people doing this, but at least it feels a little more normal.

Well, in that context, I suppose that would be a much more plausible and likely explanation than, say, finding your house listed as the base of operations for a satanic organization as claimed by some magazine back in the 1980s...

Come to think of it, that's exactly what happened when we had our house refinanced - the appraisers went around the neighborhood for recent comps, so that's probably it.

Uh, did you ever think about walking outside and asking them? You could find out the problem or issue in about 60 seconds.

But if you want to ask people on the internet go ahead.

The people taking pictures are in cars and would be long gone by the time OP got outside to talk to them. Use your head.

Ummm... the people are in cars and there's no way I could even get the front door open before they're already gone. They are in and out so quick I can't even get their license plate numbers.

I know that the county tax assessor in Glynn County has photographs taken of your house; they are posted on the public records.

The best way to get rid of people outside your house is run out in your pajamas and get right up on the window and bang on it. I've done it several times. Always works.

I had a job like that a couple years ago. I worked for the bank and we had to take pictures of people houses for many different reasons. I quit after a gun was pulled on me by a man that was in foreclosure.

Besides the insurance company. It could have been google or one of those search engines companies that have maps and pictures of every home and business on this planet. Anybody can google their house address and a recent picture of your home should come up with the directions.
