Spurred by the fall in gasoline prices, the return of consumer confidence, and low interest rates, the metro region could add up to 140,000 jobs this year, independent economist Marci Rossell told a group of Atlanta commercial real estate professionals Thursday.
Metro Atlanta added 60,000 jobs in 2013 and almost 100,000 jobs in 2014 through November, said Rossell, former chief economist with CNBC.

If that happens, you're going to see population growth start exploding in the metro region again. It is already starting as I estimate the metro grew 85k-90k residents last year. I hope this carries over to the city itself and we get more residential development.

Metro Atlanta gained 68,000 people last year (2013 being "last year"). Most of the increase was births.
I do think it's safe to assume that domestic in migration will pick up - however it dropped in half from 2012 to 2013 so who knows...

Holy Moly that's an incredible number... Job creation is the biggest factor behind population growth for most areas. Those that create the most jobs get the most residents. Atlanta still has some slack in it's labor market to take up. However, that may not stop people from moving. There is no preference for "locals" when a company hires-they hire the best qualified regardless of whether they are native or not. Outsiders may very well snatch many of them. Good news though, as we need to get out of this economic rut the nation's been mired in for SIX LONG YEARS.

The infrastructure can't handle the traffic already. How about updating the infrastructure first and then adding the jobs so they can actually get to and from work in a reasonable amount of time!

Because businesses and economies don't work that way.

I'm waiting for the wave of businesses leaving the area due to the failure of TSPLOST passing, as was predicted on this board. Remember?

I read that article and hope the state will add that many jobs and more. Sometimes I wonder if the number of new jobs is keeping up with population growth (people moving from out-of-state).

We have been creating jobs, but not at the extraordinary rate needed for the folks who are still unemployed/underemployed from the recession and the folks who are moving here
