Take the advise of these other posters. Smyrna or Vinings would avoid the beast that is 285. If that sounds too boring/suburban to you, how about West Midtown/ Howell Mill area and a reverse commute?

Also, just a note that Google maps isn't always accurate in its commute time estimates. I researched the heck out of my husband's commute, checking it daily morning and night. It is completely off from what his commute is to the point that the real commute is double what Google says.

You could rent in Mid town like my brother does its a good section of town close to a lot of the action and its safe and not that expensive, if you have more cash you can rent by Emory in Druid Hills but thats a really rich part of town.
