After researching extensively, I can say that Riverdale is not a ghetto (At least not like I used to think). The City of Riverdale is a great place to live, and it appears that the city council actually cares about the city. There are plenty of events going on at the Riverdale Town Center, and the neighborhoods are well kept. Riverdale and Drew High schools have problems due to residents in low income housing, but the district is strict on crime so ghetto people don't take over the schools. Riverdale is diverse (more so in the Riverdale High School Zone) and has many ethnic stores and restaurants ( including an H-Mart). Shopping is fairly decent, Southlake Mall and Fayette Pavilion is 10 minutes down the street. Due to all of this, Riverdale seems to be a nice place, and it looks like I'll be moving there soon. ( Note: I'm talking about the City of Riverdale and cannot account for the surrounding area.)

What are your thoughts or experiences on Riverdale. If your planning on moving, what are your questions?

(Btw, I plan to do more city reviews for the Atlanta Metro)

I have heard good things about Riverdale. Mayor Wynn-Dixon is a great asset to the city.

There isn't a shortage of these anywhere in the metro.

Hello Demonta4,
I am thinking about moving to Riverdale at Belmont crossing apartments. I am interested in knowing more about what you have researched!

Your apartment complex is great. It has a great fitness center and even a pet park. There are many great things to to in Riverdale. There is always some kind of music festival or event at the Riverdale Town Center also. Like any place though, don't leave valuable items in your car in plain sight, and use common sense, like not buying groceries late at night alone.

I live in South Fulton but travel there to grocery shop because the deals are awesome. Love the H-Mart and Food Depot.

H-Mart is a foodie's paradise with all of the exotic stuff that many travel all the way up to Buford Highway to get. The produce prices are pretty good there and it is pretty fresh due to the turnover.

You can get Walmart prices at the Food Depot (especially on their store brands) without all of the hassle and the self checkouts (ugh). It is really peaceful there at FD--clean, helpful employees, and a rather polite clientele. Give it a try--you may be surprised.

There seem to be a fare number of Chinese restaurants there that I have been wanting to try, but I think they are mostly takeout.

Thanks! Would you consider this apartment complex being on the good side of Riverdale. I want to come down some time in the next week to make my final decision. I just want to make sure I make the right decision. Any other suggestions on cities that I can look at, that are not too far from downtown ATL where i will be working? any info helps!

I have heard nothing bad about the apartment complex, and yes it is South Riverdale which is the safe part. You can also check out rental homes and apartments in Historic College Park, East Point(Camp Creek Area), Forest Park, Lake City, and Morrow.
