Even wikipedia has a good article about tarantulas, a quick read should set anyone's mind at ease about them.

Since they primarily use their hairs to detect movement and vibration, it would know your every action and location before your foot even approached where it was hiding and would accordingly get out of the way.

I didn't realize that initially to deter threats, they can throw stiffer hairs or bristles from their bodies that are quite irritating. Biting is only a last resort if there are no means of escape. Even then, just a cold compress will soothe the bite unless you have an allergic reaction.

Also, anything that eats roaches is fine with me.

I would still prefer not to have them living in my house.

If I woke up in the middle of the night and found one on me, I'd hope my BF would grt it off but the major task would be to call 911 because I'd probably have a heart attack. I do not care that they may not have deadly venom, but I find then creepy.

If they found tarantulas under my house, I would have to move out. Immediately!
Sorry to be the one to tell you this, but....

Tarantulas are actually relatively harmless, most species can't deliver a bite that is more serious than a bee sting. They're also docile spiders that are unlikely to bite unless you picked one up or accidentally stepped on one.

However, black widows are much more venomous, and if you get bitten you almost definitely have to be admitted to the hospital. And I'd be willing to bet that if you have a crawl space, you have at least one or two black widows somewhere under there!

How far can they jump, 8 or 10 feet?

One of my sons spent the summer in Costa Rica doing research. He shared his space with a tarantula all summer. He figured as long as it stayed in it's corner of the ceiling where he found it, they would cohabitate just fine. And they did. Which is not to say I would be willing to do so, but they aren't terribly dangerous.

Doesn't matter. They could be sweet as a kitten and I would still be completely freaked out by them. It's a primal instinct. I am totally phobic of those big creepy, hairy things. They are the stuff of nightmares IMHO.

We had black widows in our rose bushes (IN FULTON COUNTY) behind the house and a brown recluse was discovered in the garage. Smh.
