More information, from the same Facebook posts listed above:

Brian Maloof:
I know this post is a bit lengthy but I thought that you deserved some details about today’s news reports that the land Manuel’s sits on is being sold.
The stories are true but please read the news carefully. Only the land is being sold. Manuel’s Tavern is NOT.
The land sale is part of a partnership deal with Green Street Properties to renovate our building on North Ave. and North Highland Ave., refurbish the tavern and also develop a neighborhood-scale, mixed-use development on the immediately surrounding property.
Under the agreement, I will continue to be the sole owner of Manuel’s, Green Street will become our landlord, and the tavern will have a long-term lease at its present site.

Russell also served in Vietnam and sustained a terrible head wound from which he was told he would never recover. Yet he made it home, went to Emory and became a successful lawyer and was eventually elected chairman of the DeKalb Commission. Manuel had a temper and he and Russell were at odds several times.

DeKalb back in the day.
