Where to live near Atlanta Medical Center
Hey Guys!
Greetings from Down Under!
I have a job offer with The Atlanta Medical Center for a year starting this july after which i head back to Australia.
I need advice from you great people out there on where to live.
My wife and I have a 8 year old son who needs to go to school, a 2 year old daughter.
Our priorities would be to live in a safe area child friendly close to work with good schools.
Please help.
Cheers

I assume that you would want to rent as you will only be in Atlanta for a year. I have no idea about the rental market in Atlanta but you could check out rentals on the following websites:
craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums (click on Atlanta)
Atlanta News, Sports, Atlanta Weather, Business News | ajc.com (our local newspaper)
I live in Inman Park and my doctor is in the professional/doctor's center at Atlanta Medical and it takes me 5 minutes to get to my appointment. You can see the neighborhood website at Inman Park.
You also might want to check out the City of Decatur. It will take you about 15 minutes to get to work and they have an excellent school system. Check out their website at City of Decatur, GA. You could also do a search on school systems in Atlanta too. Traffic is kind of tough in Atlanta - but not like in bigger cities and if you live in an urban setting - don't live in the suburbs!
Good luck to you!
Cheers!
Email me if you have any more questions.
George
P.S. I know where you can get some vegemite too!

Midtown isn't really a suburb - it is more of a vaguely defined area slightly north of downtown that contains older neighborhoods. We typically refer to suburbs as neighborhoods outside the Perimeter (Hwy. 285). I second the idea of Inman Park especially since your school aged child is still in elementary school. Make the wise choice and find housing as close to your work as possible - you'll appreciate it everyday!

Mary Lin Elementary would be the elementary school for you in Inman Park. Here is a link to a school rating site that also includes some parent ratings: Lin Elementary School - Atlanta, Georgia - GA - school overview
Also, here is the direct link for the school: Mary Lin Elementary* Atlanta, GA
In terms of fully furnished apartments - maybe you could find an apartment location company. They might be able to help you in finding a rental that is already furnished.
The previous poster is correct that Midtown is a part of Atlanta - not a suburb. If you look at a map of Atlanta, there is a loop (interstate or highway) that circles around the City. It is called I-285 (Interstate) and you either live within the "perimeter" or outside the perimeter. Midtown is just minutes away from Inman Park. Check out the Midtown Alliance, a non-profit organization for the area at Midtown Alliance.
