This is where I would pick. This is just north of Emory University so there are tons and tons of people in their mid-twenties to early 30s (grad students, not undergrad). You'd also be close to a huge restaurant scene in Decatur and centrally located enough to visit the other hip parts of town in the evening or on the weekend. I would also consider Poncey Highlands or a carriage house or apartment in VaHi or one of the neighborhoods near Little Five. It would be a longer commute but still do-able (my husband has commuted to Buckhead from most of the above locations).

Buckhead is nice to visit but not everyone wants to live there. It's not my cup of tea.

Seconded! Great area. Young crowd. Safe area. Lots of walking and biking trails and the river. 15 minutes from atl. You can take back roads in 15 min to buckhead or the interstate.
