New price tag: Braves stadium project to cost $1.1B

Quote:
COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- It's official: the Braves' new stadium and surrounding development will cost more than a billion dollars.
A new security filing from Braves owners Liberty allots $672 million for SunTrust Park and $452 million for the surrounding mixed-use development. It adds up to a total cost of above $1.1 billion.
Meanwhile, those in Cobb County are focused on progress. New renderings and construction photos give a clearer vision of how the area all will look by 2017.

It'll be nice. At the end of the day, I'm still a Braves fan.

My alma mater is renovating its football stadium for half a billion. That's for 6-8 home games a year. Even with a capacity over 100K compared to 30K or whatever for the Braves there are at least many more games a year. And it's you know, an actual pro team and not a university.

This is really nothing new. The cost of the ballpark has always been estimated in the high $600M range. This report is simply now layering the cost of the mixed use development on top. These aren't new expenses.

Sounds like Cobb is getting serious bang for their buck.

And that # doesn't include large amounts of build-out expenses being picked up by the 4-star hotel and the anchor tenant on the office tower for their respective spaces/buildings. Both are done deals, but Plant/Braves won't announce to the media for another month or 2.

Maybe they can afford to keep good talent being a landowner of over 90 acres.

Can we no longer claim to have a major daily newspaper because the AJC moved to Sandy Springs?

Did Atlanta lose a bunch of prestigious corporate headquarters when they settled outside the city limits?

Does Atlanta have no claim on the most prestigious private university in the state?

Is Atlanta now dwarfed in population by Charlotte and Jacksonville?

In my opinion this Braves thing is ridiculous. Atlanta is a WHOLE lot more than the city limits.

The AJC is crap, no one would want to claim it.
