Hello all...

Need some insight. I am single 33 year old male currently living in Dallas. Originally from Tennessee. I moved to Dallas a few months ago from New York to take on a new position and to build my resume. I absolutely loved New York City, but couldn't take the toll of high cost of living.

After doing some research, I decided to take a pay cut and move to Dallas.

Well I have been here two months and I am convinced that this is not the place for me.

Socially it has been very difficult finding a group to spend time with. I am a friendly guy, but just don't seem to be having much luck meeting people. Also, the downtown area where I live completely shuts down after 7 pm.

My plan is to work 6 months to a year and then transfer to a new city. Narrowed my choices to either Atlanta and Chicago.

I am a simple guy and don't need much. If I could find a place with the following I would be very happy:

-Good dating scene
-Live Jazz music venues
-Concentrated Downtown area that has things open after 9 pm

I know I will never be able to find another city that matches vibe of New York.

Just looking for a place that has a bit more action.

Will I find that in Atlanta?

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

Yes. Atlanta has the best all around entertainment in the south. Midtown would be perfect for you. Plus you can take the Beltline to Va - HI, Inman Park and O4W. We had more visitors than Vegas last yea and we have best music festivals and festivals. Atlanta is still a growing city and it's not there yet but it's pretty damn close to being there.

So if you want to do it right move to Midtown if you can afford it and join Meetup.com and you should be straight. If I was you I would move by April because April is the beginning of festival season and they are so much fun

Hi I am a chicago native and lived in Atlanta for 3 years, my take is yeah atlanta has better weather and while its not cheap still somewhat cheaper than chicago. If you can get a job in the city or live not far from the city lets say Lakeview, evanston and even arlington heights go for chicago. Chicago is a international city that is most simliar to NY which all types of activities and festivals. Good public transit where you dont need a car and there is even a beach. North avenue beach by lake michigan. What drove me crazy is that atlanta is a sprawling landlock traffic nightmare no access to water, but each city what you make of it.

Don't forget frigid winters in Chicago.

Either Midtown Atlanta or Chicago. Choose one. Midtown acts as a second walkable downtown area just to the north of the downtown core.

Atlanta and Dallas are both very similar. You should take a visit before deciding.

I disagree. Both are very different imo outside of both being southern cities and both have sprawl.

General consensus, at least that I've been told since becoming single myself, is that the numbers favor single males in Atlanta's dating scene, i.e., single women outnumber single men.

Atlanta, GA/Georgia Male to Female Ratio, Median Age, Avg Salary & Home Price

The ratio is.basically even. Men and women. People will say it's way more women but this is my evidence.
