They have some pretty high volume though and are really only about 30K less in ridership for 2014, than we are. Which probably puts their commuter ratio higher than ours. Plus with the new SPLOST funding and tax money rolling in from the pot-smokers, I anticipate they will be catching up as their system becomes more robust.

The plan is to extend the green line to stonecrest mall, extend the bankhead station to accommodate 6 car length trains.

I actually suggested they do that as part of the COA anyways regardless of the status of I-20 East (see below). It would allow a bit more flexibility in the system especially in the event of disruptions west of Ashby. I also suggested that it could allow Green line rush hour service to Avondale which will become particularly important as MARTA moves forward with East Lake and Avondale TODs.

Where would y'all extended the Bankhead line to?

Originally it was built to go to Perry Homes, but that was scaled back due to costs and when it was decided to demolish the housing project. That part of town now doesn't have a high enough population to warrant a MARTA stop and after that it's Cobb county. Now if Cobb some how miraculously decided to pay for MARTA, then I say go for it

All lines other than green line run 6 car trains. By reducing trains to 6 cars, MARTA was able in increase frequency without adding a lot of additional cars. 15 minute headways: 4 trains per hour with 8 cars= 32 cars. 10 minute headways: 6 trains per hour with 6 cars= 36.
Also, MARTA has to make sure it has enough cars in reserve just in case and they are always doing maintenance on others.

Why not cut all the trains to 2 or 3 cars and shorten decrease headways even more. Trains are rarely full except during peak hours.
