Question Reverse commute time? Live in Candler Park/Little Five Points, work in Douglas/Carroll County

I'm considering moving to the Candler Park/Little Five Point area of Atlanta, but will be working in Carroll County. Does any one have an idea how long the reverse commute (or to Douglasville to Villa Rica?) would be (drive to work in AM, home in PM). Is this an insane decision? Thanks!

Well, I'm sure someone will chime in with real numbers but...you would be hard pressed to find an actual 'reverse commute' in the ATL area. Truck traffic alone travels in all directions at all times. First, you have to get out of your neighborhood and then just the shear number of miles you are talking about doesn't bode well for a trouble-free commute. There are bike rides in Carroll County that I pass up just because of the potential traffic snafus at any given time(leaving from Sandy Springs). Good luck.

I've found the directions feature on Google Maps to be relatively accurate at showing drive times. Just to go:

Google Maps

Click on "Directions" and input the to and from addresses. Since you presumably don't yet have an address for Candler Park, you can just put in 30307. After it gives you the directions (and drive time) you can tell it to show you the reverse directions as well. It won't be exact, but it should give you a decent idea of drive time.

Mapping from my house on McLendon to Villa Rica on Google Maps shows it's a little over 36 miles. It indicates that you should go down Moreland and get on 20. But, you might find that it's a little congested on Moreland, depending on the time. My husband drives to Clayton State going down Moreland and it doesn't take him long, about 30 minutes to drive 14 miles but that's because there are stop lights along Moreland.

Alternatively, you should be able to get on Freedom Parkway and then take 85/75 to 20. Getting to Freedom Parkway is easy. Go down McLendon towards Moreland, turn right on Candler St, right on Euclid, then left back onto Candler St (it's a dogleg), then left on Druid Pine, right on Moreland and you're right at the light to get on Freedom Parkway.

I'd try out the commute a few times on a busy day and see how it is but I'd guess you're close to an hour's drive, maybe it's 45 minutes if traffic on the interstate is light, which it might be since you'd be going the opposite way.

It doesn't take long to get out of the neighborhood and onto the interstate, so don't worry so much about that.

Welcome to Candler Park, if you decide to move here!
