Default Riverdale??

Hi, everyone!!

I've posted here before... asking about Peachtree City and Fayetteville, which are both great... however, this time I am intersted in Riverdale (mostly b/c it's a shorter drive into downtown)... is there anything we need to know about the area?? The houses look beautiful for not too much money - seems a little strange..? Any comments/opinions are really appreciated. Thank you!!

Generally, if the house prices are lower than other areas, there's a reason for it.

Riverdale has traditionally been a stable middle-class area. It has suffered from a bad reputation as of late, but I personally think the area is really not that bad. I'd give it a second look. Also, like you said...since it is relatively short commute to downtown, I would expect a big turnaround in the next 5-10 years as people rediscover the convenience and the bargains (which I think will happen to many of the Clayton County towns...Forest Park, Riverdale, Morrow, Jonesboro, Lake City, Ellenwood, Rex...so close to the airport and pretty close to downtown).

As you look in Riverdale, here is some advice...find a neighborhood that is mostly made up of homeowners. Avoid neighborhoods with a lot of renters or Section 8. This is where is you will find the difference in Riverdale.

A homeowner-oriented neighborhood in Riverdale should be OK/good.

Good Luck.

P.S.-You will have a lot of people on this forum who will disparage Riverdale and Clayton County without much real knowledge about the area. I recommend going to Riverdale yourself and talking to homeowners in the areas you are interested in.

I have never lived in Riverdale, But seem to have heard about it many times over the years on the news. Of course, I have been through there and stuff, ...on my way to the airport.

It is not anywhere close to the safest or most enviable places in Atlanta. But, because location is high on my list and I just aint movin outside the city, Ptree city is far...LOL. I might take that chance or look at even other places close to Atlanta.

Thanks for all opinions... since I got so many different comments, I might have to see for myself... I live in southern california now (riverside area) and I know a lot of people think that's a "hell hole", which is certaintly true for some areas... but there's also areas that are nice w/ great parks and schools... So... I will definitely check it out myself... during the day time, just to be safe, LOL.

When I first lived near Riverdale 28 years ago the KKK had organized fund drives/collections at street intersections....now you will get killed there with all the gang activity that goes on in that section of Clayton county.

PTC is a 30 minute commute to the airport

Please do yourself a favor and stay out of Riverdale. Check the crime stats. Peachtree City is worth an extra exit off the freeway.
