If I were single I would have definitely lived in the city. But my husband HATES the city, so I'm stuck commuting to Atlanta. Not fun. Since you are single the 1brms in the city aren't too bad in terms of rent.

lizziegirl,

Sorry, I didn't see your post until now.

It depends on your budget and if you don't mind renting. My neighborhood is Candler Park. Yes, the schools are great. But home prices start in the high $300s. But, you can rent a small house for about $1200/month. It's a great area to raise kids. I know it's a little pricey but some of my son's friends are living in single parent homes out here because of the schools, easy commute, and access to a mixed community (ie, all incomes, races, careers, etc).

Good luck and Welcome to Atlanta!

Hello All !
I am seeking advice from any and all who may be able to offer it to me. I am moving to the Atlanta area this year, Aug. 26 to be exact. My issue right now is in deciding which area to look into to find a rental property closest to my job location. - Preferably, a nice, inexpensive, single family home, with 1+ bedrooms, a basement and at least a one car garage. - Am I asking for too much within my $700 maximum rental price range ???

The main reason this is a problem for me is the fact that there are 5 different locations in the city and surrounding areas where my job may be transferred and they are: 1. Near the Cumberland Mall, SE Atl 30339 2. Marietta 30062 3. Near Northlake Mall, Atl 30345 4. Near Gwinnett Place Mall, Duluth 30096 and 5. Near the Mall at Stonecrest, Lithonia 30038

So, I guess first of all, I need opinions on which job location would be best as far as the area, travel time- to & fro the city...

Please give me some insight !

(but the area slightly north of Powder Springs [the intersection of Macland, Lost Mountain, and New Macland Roads] is known as "Macland")

If I were you, I would definitely stay away from Stonecrest and Gwinnett Place malls, probably avoid the Northlake and Cumberland Mall areas (although there are some decent complexes not too far from them), and stick with the Marietta option.
