Lightbulb Moving to Atlanta

Hi Everyone
My sister gave me this link to help with my transition. Right now I live in PA, have been here my whole life. I am turning 24 and want a change, I want to start all over and so I am moving to Atlanta. I am hoping to move this May, and a good friend is coming with me (I think) she and I are planning on sharing an apartment.

I am not familiar with the area, and I don't want to live right in the city. I would like to be close to the night life, and other fun things, and close the Turner Field would rock. I have been a die hard Braves fan since I was 5....don't ask how I got hooked on them....it just happened. I want to be close but not living downtown.

I am looking for suggestions on apartments close to the city but not to close, and any other information would be great, I am literally picking up my life and coming down. Very excited for this but at the same time I am scared to death. Sooner or later I will be a Season Ticket holder for the Braves but I need a job, and place to live first.

Any help would be great! Thanks!!

Alot of the area around Turner field is pretty dicey, while some of the areas (like Grant Park) are being revitalized. Do you have any idea what you'll be doing for a living or where you'll be working? How about an approximate rent amount you think you'll be able to swing? The last thing you want to do is live on the opposite side of town from where you're working.

The best way to get to Braves games is to take the MARTA rail, so just make sure your apartment community is close enough to a MARTA train station and you should be fine to get to games.

My advice: Search for jobs then pick an area based on where you find your jobs.

Do decide where to live based on where you will be working.

But if you are in downtown/midtown, I would definitely recommend Grant Park as a place to check out. I, too, am a PA transplant and have called Grant Park home for the last 4 years. It is close to all major highways, 10 minute drive to VA Highlands, Midtown, great places to go out. And you are within a mile of Turner Field. I agree that areas right around Turner Field aren't the best - but if you head east and get past Hill Street - you are safe. We walk to Braves games all the time - mainly the day games - but sometimes night if we are with a group.

As for apartments in that area - there is the Matress Factory Lofts - but I would suggest going on craigslist or somewhere and finding a cute condo/townhouse/house to rent in the area.

Hope this helps - good luck with your move!
