One other thing is that Nashville gets a little more snow than Atlanta (which rarely gets any). This may be a factor if you (or your kids) enjoy a little snow in the Winter.

Thanks guys - Still talking it out...Maybe the unknown/adventure of moving to Atlanta is somewhat appealing. Not anytime soon (with small children and all) but it would be a positive to be close to the hub that is the Atlanta airport.

But I also love how you can show up to the Nashville airport 30-40 minutes before your flight and be just fine getting on the plane...

If you live north of Atlanta and travel any time close to commuter hours, you can probably leave your house in Nashville, get through security, get on your plane, take off, land, and be at the Atlanta airport to meet your connection in about the same amount of time it would take you to get to the Atlanta airport your house here.

Nashville does not get snow every year either.

Yeah, I think you're right. Nashville got some measurable snow a couple times this past winter, but it's not all that common. I heard that locals joke that there's a dome over Nashville in the winter because, although it often gets cold, they don't get much snow.

Yes in fact many winters Atlanta has had more snow and ice than Nashville, especially 2010-2011, 2011-12.

We just moved from Franklin about a year ago and would move back in a heartbeat. I actually like it here but I loved Franklin. The biggest draw for Atlanta is there is much more opportunity for my husband in the job arena. There are also many great things to do in the city and there are three pro sports teams. As for the Nashville area it just feels more quaint and family friendly. Also there's way less keeping up with the Joneses and that's from the perspective of someone who lived in the wealthiest county in TN. Again I don't think you could go wrong bc I love both places but Nashville has my vote.

I totally get what I bolded above as a possible motivation for your moving. There's nothing wrong with trying something new and if not now, then when?

I have only been to Nashville around three times. Twice as a child vacationing with my pare3nts and once in my early 20s to visit a friend who was in school there so I am far from an authority on the comparison. I do not love Atlanta's food, but I remember especially not liking anything I ate in Nashville. That's neither here nor there but I said it because it kind of stood out in my mind or it could be a case of broke college students not being able to afford a good restaurant.

I do remember thinking Nashville was beautiful though. It seemed more like a big suburb than a city to me.

You have your fall-back network in Nashville if you end up not liking Atlanta. The only thing that would make me hesitate is that you have a family of four. If it were just you, I'd say by all means go for it. Since it seems children are involved, I'd be a bit more hesitant to uproot them multiple times and force them to adjust to be newbies over and over again.

I second ElleKaye's sentiment:

Do it now while the kids are little and adaptable. You can always move back home. It will be much harder to leave when they're older.

P.S. Atlanta has more than 3 pro sports teams

For really awesome public schools you have to get either way outside the perimeter (like Alpharetta area) or city of Decatur... not really a lot of great options intown. Having lots of friends and family around when you have kids would majorly lean me towards Nashville. There's a ton to do here for kids and families, but Nashville isn't exactly lacking either.
