...Everhart is a legit city street, that goes thru/under a parking deck, crosses a railroad track, and then heads under the GWCC area here:

https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7602.../data=!3m1!1e3

And then I dunno what happens. You're saying there is another street down there, running directly under International, that it actually intersects with? I guess I've never been down there.

Anyway, hopefully there will be some kind of public street connection between Baker and Magnolia, even if it's tiny and sub-viaduct. Maybe that's what will happen?
It's a pretty cool drive honestly. You go under the new deck for the CFHOF, the under portions of the CNN Center/Phillips/GWCC (i think). Intersection and even a couple of bridges are hidden under International Blvd! They creatively used the RR bridge to look like a portal to the opening ceremonies in one of the Hunger Games Movies. When the road under International runs into the Dome, you have to go left (South) on Magnum but I think it looks like there is more to the street to the North but there is a gate.

Looking around some more, there is a "hidden" existing RR underpass that looks like it would have taken Baker out to Northside. Much less likely to be used today as there are some massive conference centers in the way... - https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7609.../data=!3m1!1e3

One of the embankments down there is one of the oldest pieces of infrastructure in Atlanta.

Oh, very cool. Is that one of the RR underpasses? and did you learn that on that cool under the streets of Atlanta tour?

BTW, you can see this same RR ROW before the Dome/GWCC in the movie Sharky's Machine. Lots of great shots of early 80s Atlanta including a hostage scene on an old MARTA bus. Not sure that's in the following clip, but here's the intro w/ the RR ROW-

What I'd like to see, is that you would be able to turn on to Magnum St from Mitchell St here:

https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7538...7i13312!8i6656

Continue driving on Magnum St, and up here you'd have a stop sign or maybe even hopefully a traffic light, and to the left would be Magnolia St:

https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7575...7i13312!8i6656

With the dome gone, Magnolia St would then connect with the intersection with Northside here:

https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7580...7i13312!8i6656

It wouldn't even need to ramp up much, because I think that's about at the same elevation, or close.

And then Magnum St past Magnolia St, would become Everhart St, and run under Int'l Blvd, and out to Baker St.

Or something along those lines. Then Vine City would have a more direct street link with the Peachtree Center area.

Makes a ton of sense to me, I'd love to see that happen. But, we do need to leave space for grass parking lot, so please keep that in mind. Priorities you know

That's where the Home Depot tailgate is going to be.

I dunno, the renderings here support my idea:

https://atlanta.curbed.com/2017/4/24...depot-backyard

That looks like Magnolia St running thru there, with the tailgate area directly south of it

If they can make it happen then I support that idea. But I doubt they want thru traffic on those mostly service roads.

I did some Gulch and sub-level exploring today. (In a car, anyway.) Just out of sheer curiosity.

From Baker St, I went across the intersection and followed "Everhart St" down into the "underground". And sure enough, there are a few different unnamed/unmarked streets down there that you can actually navigate, that don't require going thru a gate or anything. But there's nothing but paid parking decks and lots everywhere down there, that everything mostly leads to. I ended up in the outdoor Gulch area, then exited up straight onto Alabama St near Five Points.

Conclusion: once the Dome is gone in a few months, there definitely seems to be the potential for those underground streets to connect with Magnolia St, and Magnum St, and I think even Carter St, right here:
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7563...7i13312!8i6656

It would at least be possible to have a sub-level street grid down there. Granted, it would mostly be used to access parking decks, but there could potentially be some legit streets down there, too. Though, it's a bit depressing with no sunlight.

That's one street closure I can get behind. International would probably never be connected with Magnolia.

To the north heads into the loading dock area of the Dome, and GWCC buildings B and C. While it does connect over to Ivan Allen, or whatever it's called there, it is not a through road, but a secure area.

That bridge was indeed a bridge for an offshoot of Baker, but I do not believe it connected to Northside, as there used to be a small railroad yard where GWCC Building C is today.

This is certainly doable. And I would very much support it, as I currently have to drive around MB stadium, then double back on Mangum to get to the Red Deck since they closed the road that used to connect Northside to Mangum. Not that far, but every minute counts early in the morning!

I don't think it would be much traffic. Wouldn't think that Vine City to downtown on a winding under-road would be very popular when Ivan Allen is 1/3 mile north on a 4-lane divided road, and MLK is 1/4 mile south on a 4-lane road.

Not sure about Carter going through. It can't go any further than Mangum, so it's mostly pointless. When I drive down there tomorrow morning, I'll try to see what this part has become, on the other end of what would be Carter. https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7564...7i13312!8i6656
