So I posted earlier in this forum about a potential move to the Atlanta area with my family within the next year, and have done a TON of research regarding areas we are looking at (narrowed it down to 6 towns/cities) One strong contender was Alpharetta. I was casually looking at homes and prices on Zillow in that town, and there were a ton of homes in our 350K-ish price range. However, I looked at homes with similar sq footage and style in Kennesaw, and a lot of them were 75K-100k cheaper! And according to the ratings, the schools don't seem bad at all (8-9 ratings).

Is there a reason for such a price difference in Kennesaw? Is it just not as popular of a place to live? More crime? Any input would be great.

Northern Cobb(Kennesaw and Acworth) is a true gem in metro Atlanta. I mean thats my opinion, I lived here for years. I don't know exactly why Alpharetta is more expensive than Kennesaw. But I would say East Cobb is more comparable to Alpharetta. As for crime, Kennesaw is one of the safest cities in metro Atlanta probably has less crime than Alpharetta.

No catch. By law you have a gun in your house in Kennesaw because it's the law even though they don't enforce it. It's safe, hilly and nice. Where will you be working in the metro area?

Sure sounds like a gem! Thank you for your feedback. Kennesaw has been on my radar since starting my research in metro Atlanta. Everyone seems to always want to steer me towards Alpharetta and John's Creek (probably simply because of its upscale reputation?) but we are pretty laid back and down to earth and far from the "elitist" mentality. Kennesaw definitely seems to be a strong contender.

I like (and have) guns, so that won't be an issue. I have no job lined up, as we are in the initial stages of doing the research (we are coming down to visit family in Marietta this summer, so we plan on driving around the areas we were interested in)

My wife is the bread winner and will be working from home, and I don't really have a set "career", so I would be looking to find a job within the area that pays alright. I am currently in the health insurance industry and work in credentialing. But have a ton of experience in other administrative roles. Definitely do NOT want to work in Atlanta as I have heard traffic is a major issue.

John's Creek is far from elitist.

Care to elaborate? Again, being a non resident, that was just the general impression I got from people regarding Alpharetta/John's Creek (Due to the excellent schools and more expensive homes) Which suburb of ATL would you consider to be more elitist?

kennesaw actually has a decent amount of office parks where you could find work, also Marietta and cumberland are down the road which opens up many more job potentials.
