I've done that kind of trip many times in my life...a weekend trip to Memphis when AirTran used to have cheap flights there or a quick trip to Houston to visit a friend and see the city. It's fun to just see different American cities and experience what they have to offer - even if they aren't necessarily huge vacation destinations. I don't really care where "everyone else" is going.

3.3 million for Los Angeles....barely about 660k for Atlanta. 3rd highest city just after NYC and Miami.
Do you live in LA? If not, why not?

I used to live there as a kid/tween before my parents moved out to Atlanta...you know...the black migration to the south sort of thing.

I just graduated and Los Angeles doesn't really have a Tech type industry so yeah...plus there are still other cities I'd rather live in before LA like NYC, SF, DC, Chicago.

I heavily second this comment. There are probably ten or 15 cities in the US I'd rather visit than Miami.

Well, "far better city" is subjective but otherwise I think you're spot on. NYC and LA will remain the two most visited cities in the U.S. for quite some time to come.

I think some people are equating "most visited" with "far better".

Atlanta is solidifying itself as a top destination in the country.
Domestic visitation in the city is expected to reach 50 million visitors in 2015, said William Pate, president and CEO of the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau, during the group’s annual meeting on April 30.
The city welcomed about 48 million domestic visitors in 2014, a six percent increase from 2013.That’s more than cities including Los Angeles and Las Vegas, said Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed during the event.
“These visitors contributed approximately $14 billion in economic impact to the city, the region and the state because of you,” Reed told the audience. “The hospitality industry is a major driver of Atlanta, our region and state’s economy.”
I'm surprised the Moderator leaves your post in RED? I was told NO RED, MODERATOR'S ONLY once. Mine was change to blue then.

But not sure about this Atlanta number? Because of the following......

San Francisco received 16.9 million visitors in 2013 (I couldn't find the 2014 numbers)
Research | San Francisco, CA

Los Angeles had 43.4 million visitors in 2014
Mayor Garcetti Announces Records Set Again In 2014 for Visitors to L.A. and PASSENGERS at Los Angeles International Airport - Office of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garrett

Chicago had over 50 million visitors in 1914
Chicago tourism hits record with more than 50M visitors in 2014 | WGN-TV

Chicago had more than 48.5 million domestic visitors last year, topping New York by more than four million. But NYC numbers goes WAY UP when International Tourist get counted. Highest in the nation.

So this Atlanta number seems questionable? Since it has much less Hotel rooms then these other cities, and that is how they gain GENERALLY THE NUMBERS? BY HOTEL ROOMS OCCUPIED and Airport totals.......OMG THAT IS IT THE AIRPORT NUMBERS. If I fly from Harrisburg PA and want to go to Chicago? They want me to do a connecting flight through ATANTA FIRST. BUT I WOULDN'T LEAVE THE AIRPORT INTO ATLANTA.

No, this number has nothing to do with connecting flights at the airport. That has already been established in this thread.

Atlanta doesn't have MUCH less hotel rooms than these other cities mentioned...

Chicago 108,700
New York 106,000
LA 97,200
Atlanta 93,900
San Francisco not in the top 10
http://loyaltytraveler.boardingarea....y-hotel-rooms/

It's a pretty close race. Keep in mind that Atlanta is a top 5 convention city in the U.S.

NO. It is not the airport numbers. Do a modicum of research before you post, please. Hartsfield-Jackson welcomed nearly 100,000,000 passengers last year.

Again a visitor is a visitor rather it's leisure or business they all will impact the economy.

Ant just wanna have something to say because that 50 million looks pretty up there and he is bothered by it. Let me repeat a visitor is a visitor no matter what they are here for.
