I just bought a house in West End. The house has no mailbox. The houses in the neighborhood have their mailboxes mounted on exterior walls by the front door. I thought great (this was my preference anyway), I'll put mine up by the door too.

After installing the mailbox on the house the postal worker left a note saying that it must be mounted on the street per current guidelines. Well, the problem is that there are brick sidewalks with no grassy areas at all by the street. The nearest area would be up the stairs and in my yard. Besides, I would rather have it on my house like all of the other houses in the neighborhood.

I am wondering if anyone might have had a similar issue and knows who I should talk to in order to keep it on the house.

Please come to the WEND the first Tuesday in May. The organization have a zoning committee at each meeting. If you need a quicker answer post your question on WEND page on Facebook. West End also have a group on Yahoo that could answer your question.
