It's been tough to find an answer to this question online, so I figure someone in here may know.

We all know Atlanta is then number 1 market for electric cars.

I was researching the plug-in hybrid Sonata coming out later this year, and apparently it is only going to be offered in states with California emissions. Similarly, there is a Toyota Prius plug-in model that has never been available in Georgia.

Since we are the number one electric car market, why wouldn't these cars be available here? Is there some tax issue or something that makes in unfavorable for them?

The reason we are (soon to be "we were") a number one electric car market is because we give 5K in tax credits on the lease or purchase of an electric car--the credit does not help with the purchase of plugin hybrids--so we do not gobble them up like we gobble up Leafs. Atlanta loves electric cars---as long as they are "free" --who would have thought?

Some EV's sold today are only "compliance cars" sold in limited numbers and limited markets in order to comply with California requirements. The manufacturers have no interest in making it a mass market platform, just staying on CA's good side.
