Last summer when I was in Atlanta I stayed with some friends for a couple of days in Canton. It seemed like an alright place. No complaints really. Side note: I notice that the only people with deep southern accents lived outside the Atlanta area.

As a segway to my post I want to state that I have learned over the past couple of years that where you live in the states and the environment you're in makes all the difference on how you percieve other people. Prior to moving 45 miles south of Chicago in Indiana, we lived in Fla. I never picked up on any in your face racism but when I came to In. boy were my eyes wide open. It was a whole different ball game. It amazes me the amount of anger and resentment black folks percieve from white people. This anger comes out in every conversation (almost) the attitude is pretty much "I'll kick any ones----"
Unfortunately, this has tainted where I want to live if we are blessed enough to leave the corn fields. For the first time in my life, I'm looking at demographics and school test scores - I feel badly about being so selective but I really don't want to hear about how many daddies any one has had or not knowing who the daddies are and that white people are out to get the black people. This thought process is so foreign to me - it makes me very sad. I read another post where it was stated that socioeconomic standing has everything to do with who your neighbors are no matter the race. This is what I was used to prior to In. My point in all this: We're looking at Bridgemill in Canton and a few places in Woodstock or Kennesaw - could someone shed some light on my nievete (spelled wrong i'm sure). I hope no one took offense to my post, none was meant in the slightest.

Mostly true. Once you get about 30 miles outside of Atlanta proper, the drawl starts kicking in.

I've lived in Kennesaw from 2006 to current; I lived in Marietta (but within a mile from the southern edge of Woodstock, so I got around lower Woodstock quite regularly) from 2001 to 2006; and I lived in Alpharetta from 2000 to 2001.
What specifically would you like to know? I'll see if I can help.

I only read about half of these posts, but I moved from central Florida to Canton about 6 months ago. My husband and I even bought a house. This was the worst mistake of our lives and we regretted the decision every single day until we finally decided that the lower priced housing was NOT worth the misery of living in Georgia as opposed to Florida.
I also just got off the phone with a childhood friend, vacationing in Florida (which used to be his home) from Georgia. He and his wife spend their whole vacation every year trying to figure out how they can move back. They hate Georgia and really, really want to return to Florida.
We felt the same way. Every visit back to Florida (from Georgia) was torture b/c we knew we had to return to Georgia.
I know there are lots of people who want to move the other way. This is just my opinion. But I would be very careful about buying a house before you know FOR SURE if you are going to like Georgia (I worked in Canton, lived in Waleska, which is about 10 min north of Canton).
Now we have a house that we are renting to tenants for less than the mortgage, but I don't care, because I'm happily back in Florida!

Well, I am another Floridian who moved to Cherokee county. However, I LOVE LIVING HERE!! However, I would never move to Waleska...too country for me
I think the key is to rent first and figure which area you love. I know many more people who moved from Florida who love it here.

I moved to Canton from Florida and I would never, ever, ever move back. Florida YUCK!!!! It's so much better here. If you like hot, humid, hair-stick-to-the-back-of-your-neck weather almost EVERY Day then FL is for you. If you like Hurricanes, Hurricane warnings, Hurricane preparation, Hurricane evacuations then FL is for you. If you like your Insurance and Homeowners Insurance increasing dramatically EVERY year then FL is for you. If you want your house's value to sink like a lead balloon then FL is for you.
My family and I are so much happier here than we have been in years. Most of my friends and family would give their left arm to move out of FL. We were one of the lucky ones who escaped. GA rules!!!

I think of my experience in Canton has left a bad taste in my mouth. I am just the type of person who doesn't like to be stared at.
I hope to travel across this nation and perhaps the benefit of travel will teach me more and more about human nature.
