My family and I have been here a few years and currently live in the area near Northlake Mall. I may be starting a job near Turner Field and was looking to move close to work and was looking at some apartments on Tara Blvd in Jonesboro. I have a sixteen and eleven year old and wanted to know the safety of the area and overall crime. The apartments are just a mile or so down Tara Blvd right after getting off of I-75.

I wouldn't recommend living directly off of Tara Blvd. (Especially the area right below 75). Better areas would be Lake City or Morrow, especially if you don't want a bad commute. You might also want to look in central Forest Park (along Forest Parkway). Here are some in Morrow. http://www.apartments.com/morrow-ga/
As far as schools Morrow Middle and High are good options. If you live in Forrest Park Babb Middle is better than Forest Park Middle, so keep that in mind. You might also find a good deal on renting a house, so check that out too. Good Luck!

Don't do that, the commute will kill you.

Thanks. I thought about the Douglasville or Carrolton areas but was worried about the commute.

I agree with Demonta about the Forest Park area being a better choice than the particular section of Tara Blvd you referenced. I'd personally never live in a complex anywhere near Tara & am fortunate to live in a quiet area a few miles away from it.
You might also consider the cities of Morrow & Lake City as options which are directly east & southeast of Forest Park.

North east Clayton County (Forest Park, Lake City, and Morrow) are really nice. You will really could probably find an affordable rental on a single family home in the area. Forest Park High, Babb Middle, district are better than Forest Park Middle.

There are a lot of areas where you could live that would be closer to Turner Field than Tara Boulevard or even Clayton County. Check out some of the neighborhoods in Atlanta nearby and also in East Point or College Park. You would have a really short commute.

Like Joe said, if your up for it, you can find a place in West End, Capital View, or East Atlanta.(depending on your income).

Of Demonte's suggestions, I would check out Capital View Manor (East of Metropolitan Parkway) not to be confused with Capital View (West of Metropolitan Parkway). It is charming and well kept (I had several co-workers that raved about the neighborhood) Give it a look. Public schools could be more of a barrier (I believe Sylvan Hills Middle and Carver High).
