Hello there! My name is Brian and moved to RIC 2 years ago from Newport News. My experience here has been ok. My goal is to buy a home within a year but couldn't find any area in RIC that fit my criteria (i.e., affordable housing and diversity in terms of socio-economic class and ethnicity). I make a modest $47,000 a year, and I'm looking to pay about $175,000-$180,000 for a home. I've been traveling to Atlanta for the past couple of years and just fell in love with the place-friendly people, pro sports, modern architecure in Buckhead and the cost of living. I was blow away with what $175,000 could get you in a gorgeous suburb like Peachtree City. My company has a facility in ATL, and I'm currently working on a transfer. If I get the job, I'll make and additional $15,000 a year. To me, the relocatiom seems like a wise one. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Brian

I was in Peactree City last April and looked at a very nice home for $167,000 in an upper middle class neighborhood(most of PTC is upper middle class). I've seen similar homes in Fayetteville for that price range. Theses are both graet areas. I'd be working in Fairburn and would not have to deal with the downtown traffic.

Peachtree City is an amazing place to live. It is unlike any other that I've experienced. I think you are on the right track.

Peachtree City is gorgeous! It seemed like a great place to raise a family-pretty,clean,shopping and the best schools in the state. I was floored when I found out that 92% of the H.S. graduating class goes off to college. In addition, they have some of the highest SAT/ACT scores in the nation. I was very impressed when I visited PTC 8 months ago.

Would this not be better suited in the Atlanta section?

Where in ATL are you working? That will determine where the best place to live is. For instance, if you are working in the Buckhead part of Atlanta, I wouldn't live in Peachtree City because the commute would be too long. If you are working at the airport, I wouldn't live in Gwinnett County, etc.

Except for traffic, Atlanta is really a wonderful place to be. The economy here is red hot, jobs are begging and housing and gas are dirt cheap compared to other places. Not to mention great weather almost year round and beaches only 1/2 a day away!

Was in the Richmond section, so I moved it here since questions were about moving to Atlanta.
My fault, should have made comment or just deleted the comment
